5 Fun Activities, Groups & Resources for Moms

School has been in session for over a month now. For most Moms, that’s either a huge relief freeing up some extra time while the kids are away or for others maybe a nightmare of places they have to be in driving one kid and then the other to one activity and another. Whatever the case may be, we thought it would be nice to remind you of how important it is to squeeze in some quality time for yourself. Here are some suggestions that are fun, productive and prosperous:

1)     Join a book club.

Whether or not you love reading, getting together with the girls every few weeks can be liberating. Wine, cheese, and literature often lead to great conversation.

Book clubs are a great way to stay connected to the world outside of being a Mommy. Remember why we loved fiction in the first place? It takes us into a fantasy world where we can completely escape from our own reality. What a great way to de-stress.

If there aren’t any local groups you know of, start your own! Put flyers up at the gym or send an email to your kid’s school. There is a community of women waiting to discuss the latest steamy novel or insightful political biographies. Sit down with the NYT Best Seller list and go from there.

2) Become a “Mom Ambassador.”

Being a mom means you’re an expert on hundreds of issues AND you’re the target consumer for hundreds of products. Use your knowledge to contribute to an online community, such as Green Moms Meet, and let all the other women and moms out there learn from your experiences of using certain products.

Not only a haven for wisdom and coupons, the website gives women access to over 400 cool products to try and review for free! So learn about new products or get advice on how to get you child to eat more veggies.

3. Local Meetup Groups

Meetup.com has an AMAZING resource for local groups and events developed just for moms. The best part, other than meeting other fun women, is that many of the events are sponsored by local restaurants or stores!

So have fun for free and go do girly things that your husbands may not want to partake in. Just sign up, search, and RSVP. Romantic comedy? Go! Bowling in heels and lipstick? Go! Mani-pedis and cocktails? Go!

4. DIY Spa treatments at home

One of the best things about having the house to yourself (other than being able to walk around in just a t-shirt), is being able to pamper yourself.

You already know the ingredients in your kitchen better than anyone, so use them to make organic and therapeutic spa remedies. Take a look at our blog on several fruity and delicious treatments for skin, hair, and so much more!

5. Part Time Jobs

And once you’re done having fun, if you want to earn some cash on the side, look into resources that can help you earn some money.

Many jobs are part-time, especially during the upcoming holiday season, and it’s possible to find something to suit your schedule. To find something suitable and legitimate, first read Forbes’ guide for moms who want to work from home. The best website we found was Flex Jobs—check out their listings and resource sections.

At Maxim, we want to support women to be all that they can be; from moms to wives, to friends, to sisters, etc. Being a mom is only one facet of our lives and we want to make sure you take advantage of all that your feminine power offers! Let us know if you have great ideas or resources for other women!
