Berry Good!

So, every Thursday The Maxim Hygiene Green Queen is going to discuss one specific fruit or vegetable just to get you in the mood for good eating.

Today, we’re talking berry good. And, no… not Cap’n Crunch with Crunch Berries.  I’m talking these…

… I’m talking about raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, cherries, cranberries, boysenberries, blueberries!  Yes, I’m talking about those delicious things that you sometimes find on top of your ice cream sundaes, or inside pie, or growing on bushes!  Those berries are amazingly good for you!  Yes, they are delicious, but they are actually very healthy.

Let me just show you some of the nutritional facts about these little balls of flavor.

Blueberries:  High in vitamin C, manganese, dietary fiber, and vitamin E – An antioxidant powerhouse that’s great with a topping of whipped cream, or in a waffle. MMMmmmm!

Strawberries:  Unreal source of Vitamin C with plenty of other great nutrients like Potassium, Omega 3, and vitamin K.  Three areas of healthy awesomeness, 1) They help your blood move throughout your system.  2)  They give you better blood sugar regulation, which helps decrease risk of Diabetes Type II, 3)  They act as just another defense against many types of cancer.  BAM! Great for you and tasty, too. We’re actually munching on them in the Maxim Hygiene offices at this very moment!

Cranberries: Similar properties of the others, but cranberries have an array of phytonutrients that are excellent for your system.  Although cranberry juice is commonly known to work wonders on the body, research has proven that the bulk of the nutrients are in the skin and fleshy part of the fruit you won’t find in cranberry juice.  So, to help fight those UTI’s, it’s better to buy the real thing instead of just the juice!!!  Remember that, ladies.

I could go on and on about the benefits of berries, but just know that they all help your digestive system, and they all treat your body better than that Big Mac you might be craving right now.  Eat ‘em as a snack.  It’s just as easy, packing a little baggie of strawberries in your lunch, as it is to pack a bag of potato chips, and it’s way better for you!

So, don’t bury your head in the truth.  It’s time to dig into some berries, and enjoy the fruity tang and the associated health benefits.  For more exotic types of berries, try finding elderberries, huckleberries, or gooseberries at your local grocery.  Or, take a little step back and eat a bunch of grapes! A fruit is fruit no matter how you eat it.
