Four Care Tips for New Moms & their Babies

by All Maxim Hygiene, Parenthood

Being a new mother brings elation, but with it comes an endless number of challenges. Not only do you have to take care of yourself and new issues like chapped nipples, pumping, and night leaks, but you also have a new human being whose entire survival depends on you!

You’ve taken care of them in the womb, watched what you consumed for months, and done everything you can to make sure they were born the healthiest they could be. But the journey doesn’t end after giving birth. Each decision you make can influence your child’s development and future so it’s important to educate yourself.

So, here are four tips for new moms, to make sure you and your child are the healthiest you can be.

1. Go Organic

From the food you give them to the wipes you use to clean their bottoms, it’s incredibly important to limit what your baby is exposed to. Going organic is one of the best ways to control what enters your baby’s system, particularly since they are more susceptible to the chemical and pesticide residues that are present in conventional produce and products.

For example, using organic cotton wipes limits the harsh ingredients your baby comes into contact with. Our products are made without chlorine, synthetics, paraben, SLS, alcohol, or GMOs. Make sure you read the labels on all your products and foods, so that you can control your baby’s exposure.

2. DIY What You Can

Having a baby isn’t just emotionally and mentally draining, it’s economically stressful too! One way to alleviate the strain on your wallet is by creating the things you need at home from natural ingredients!

From nipple cream for breastfeeding mothers to diaper rash treatments, there are plenty of ways to be creative using the products you have lying around the house. For example, coconut oil can be used for both! DIY products made from organic ingredients can be safer for your child as they don’t undergo chemical processes and thereby don’t contain toxins.

3. Use Baby- Safe Products

There are so many baby products out there, it’s tough to know which to use. Some things are staples, like snot-suckers- nasal aspirators for tiny nostrils – and baby cotton swabs, designed so that penetration into the ear is limited. Consider using our hypoallergenic cleansing pleats for applying ointments or as a diaper insert for extra absorption and an extra layer of protection from the diaper itself.

Even baby lotion is important given that your baby’s skin is almost 30% thinner and dries out twice as fast. Consider something organic, without parabens, phthalates, and fragrances.

4. Ask for Help When You Need It

This is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your baby. There’s a reason the old saying “It takes a village” is so pervasive throughout generations and cultures. Being a mother is one of the toughest things a woman can do in her lifetime and having the support of loved ones can transform your experience. Your mental and emotional health are just as important as your physical health.
