Have you ever noticed that those promised new year’s resolutions become harder to fulfill after January 5th! We always promise ourselves that we are going to start a new year with intentions of better health and fitness. We tell ourselves it’s time to go to the gym, start a new diet or find other ways to take better care of our bodies. The intentions are always good, but sometimes the follow-through isn’t. Often getting motivated to follow through with any workout plan is the biggest part of the battle. We come up with reasons we don’t have time for the gym or get bored with the same old workout routines. Let’s face it, running on a treadmill, lifting weights and other workouts are not much fun, so it’s no wonder we end up losing our motivation and abandoning our resolutions.
That is why I am so excited about Zumba fitness! Instead of the boring and tedious workout routines of the past, there is something so much better out there, a fun, inspiring and sexy way to get into shape. Zumba Fitness is unlike other workouts. There are no tedious and repetitious calisthenics with Zumba, no dull instructors asking you to do “4 more”. Zumba takes all the sexy and invigorating moves from Latin-inspired dances and turns your workout into a calorie burning dance party. All of a sudden keeping those new year’s resolutions you made to get fit have taken on a whole new meaning. Zumba puts the “joie de vie” back into exercising! It is so much fun to shake your booty in these classes that you don’t even realize you are getting a workout. The high energy music, the fun and motivational instructors and the members of the class really get you wanting to do more. These are classes you look forward to going to week after week and you will be amazed at how quickly you see the results. Zumba makes you want to shake your booty and keep on shaking it!
Zumba has a lot of different ways to get involved:
Zumba Classes:
Zumba Basic: The classes teach you the steps to the four basic rhythms (merengue, salsa, cumbia, and reggaeton). They teach you how to put the steps together with the music. All of the classes are easy to learn and at your own pace, so you never need to feel like you aren’t good enough to take the class and you will be surprised at how quickly you pick up the Zumba steps!
Zumba Gold: For those of you who are “baby boomers” or new to fitness. Zumba Gold has easy to follow moves and classes designed for older active adults and those just starting their journey into fitness. The classes are designed to make friends and have fun while getting into shape.
Zumba Toning: These classes take the basic principles of the Zumba moves and throw it into high gear. Designed for intense cardio and body sculpting, these high energy classes combine the lightweight rhythm stick and fun dance moves to sculpt your arms, abs, glutes and thighs.
Aqua Zumba: Known as the “pool party” Aqua Zumba combines splashing, stretching, twisting and even laughing and hooting and hollering to make this routine fun. The low impact water fitness techniques blend together safe and challenging workouts that are designed to burn calories and tone the body.
Zumbatomic: These classes are for kids aged 4-12. These dance parties are choreographed to be kid-friendly and include music that kids love like hip-hop and others. The kids dance parties focus on teaching them self-confidence while enhancing coordination and metabolism.
Zumba in the Circuit: Designed to maximize your workout these classes take 30 minutes of high-octane dance moves and combine them with a series of strength exercises at timed intervals. You will be having so much fun with the thumping beats of reggaeton, salsa, merengue, hip-hop and more all while burning calories, shaping and toning.

Zumba Fitness is also available for the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 that combines all of the fun and inspiring dances with different dance venues like a gym, night club and even the roof of a skyscraper! Zumba combines exciting dancing, music and movement to give us a way to follow through with those new years resolutions and get a sexy, toned body while having a blast doing it. Exercise doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Now there is a way to look good and feel good while you are having an exciting, heart-pumping and joyous time.
