In honor of this lovely Spring time weather, we at Maxim Hygiene, wanted to dispense some knowledge and inform you healthy ladies about the best hikes in this great country of ours. Exercise should be part of your regular diet, but why not try and plan a great way to spend a day that leaves you sweating from a good cardio workout.
While I personally, the Green Queen, have not yet hiked many of these, mostly due to budgetary restrictions and/or vacation day deficiencies, I have done some research into the subject from many good websites, which I will include in links below.
Phil Armitage, photographer and environment appreciator, compiled his favorite day hikes of North America. The views are breathtaking. His photos capture an array of beautiful environments ranging from glacier-surrounded lakes to vast spans of desert rock and valleys. My favorite of these trails are The Narrows in Zion National Park in Southwest Utah, Coyote Gulch in Utah as well, and the Berg Lake Trail in the Canadian Rockies (because these pictures are breathtaking).
The Discovery Channel’s list is a bit more obvious, and I’ve done many of these…The only problem is that they aren’t day hikes! I’ve done the Grand Canyon, Yosemite (But not Half Dome), and The John Muir Trail (if you’ve never stood underneath a Redwood, it’s breathtaking).
National Geographic has a great list of the best walks in the world, which I can’t imagine. Having barely left the country, I would love to get to these places soon, but similar issues (money and time) seem to get in the way… Oh, life. This list makes my mouth water with adventure envy. Whoever got paid to write this article is my idol for many reasons… Let’s just say, if I can make it to the Cloud Forests of Costa Rica before I turn 90, I would be one happy hiker.
Here’s an interesting site, with North America’s top 100 hiking spots. With 100 spots, there’s a better chance that you’ll find something near you that you can do over the weekend. Me personally, as a New York resident, I found about 11 trails that I could potentially do for a day hike or an overnight camping trip. I would recommend browsing this list first, just Ctrl-F for your state, and take a look. You’ll be surprised at where you could end up hiking this weekend.
Well, happy hiking fellow Maxim Hygiene supporters. Good luck with your heart-healthy lifestyle!
