#HowtoResistSex & Why You Should If You’re on Your Period

htrsThe word “Humpday” has always been a giggle-trigger for those of us who harbor our tweensie selves deep within. So, it was no surprise, that this past Humpday, aka Wednesday, would be the day the Twitter world decided to contribute its intellectual opinions on sex.

#HowToResistSex has been trending for more than 24 hours now, and although there is still the mystery of why, it does answer several questions for the general public. People have expressed opinions that range from pro-abstinence to showing your significant other old yearbook pictures to scare the lust right out of them.

Being the Green Hygiene Queens that we are at Maxim Hygiene, where period myth busting is one of our missions, we couldn’t help but think….Would being on our periods be enough of a strategy to address this trending topic? Dripping blood, sticky mucus – the phrases are definite libido-killers.  But, turning men off is often quite a challenge.

Though most women’s sex drives fluctuate with their cycles, it is during our periods that we turn into lust-drunk crazy ladies. Did I mention that guys love this? For many men, periods mean the opportunity to have unprotected sex with their partners.

But, these “opportunities” come rife with risk. One risk that we found most myth busting is that women CAN get pregnant during their periods. The myth is derived from the fact that the chance of getting pregnant is much lower than other times in the cycle, but as we found out it isn’t impossible!

Why is this you ask? AskMen gives a great, man-friendly explanation: “Sperm can survive in the vagina for up to seven days, and an egg can survive for three. If [you] have irregular periods and ovulate closer to [your] period, the egg and sperm transit times get crossed.”

So, the best reason we found to resist from having sex? The chance of getting pregnant (that is of course you’re not trying to be). Always a good one and one touted in the infamous abstinence speech by Coach Carr in Mean Girls.

If you do have trouble turning your guy (or partner) off, here are some #HowToResistSex tactics we came up with:

1. Stop shaving your legs, armpits, and everywhere else.

2. Talk about your ex-boyfriends and their bulging…muscles.

3. Eat a fibrous diet, full of legumes, beans, and brussel sprouts. Then,“dutch oven” him/her.

4. Explain how you’re ready to settle down and be in a relationship.

5. Conveniently forget your deodorant every time you know you’ll be in their vicinity.

Don’t forget to share your own tips with us, and the rest of the world, by using the #howtoresistsex hashtag. Pictures welcome!
