Did you know that during PMS, generally the week before you get your period, your breasts can grow a whole cup size?
Somewhat non-coincidentally, studies have proven that men find women most attractive when they are biologically most fertile.
Men find women’s faces, voices and dance moves more attractive and women gravitate toward men with harsher jaw lines… probably due to their increased libido.
These miracles (of sorts) are attributed to a simultaneous high of estrogen and low of progesterone in women’s bodies. This major hormonal shift occurs around ovulation, the end of a woman’s fertile window, signified by the release of her egg.
Breast swelling and tenderness can range from mild to severe, but end right after your period does. The surge of estrogen in your blood stream causes your breast ducts to grow causing that heavy, sometimes dull feeling.
This hormonal surge can also change the density and feel of your breast tissue; some women have described it as feeling like cobblestones. This is why it’s important to check your breasts for lumps (or perform a “breast self exam”) after your period has ended! Your breasts will be the least sore and the least lumpy, minimizing the chance you mistakenly self-diagnose cancer and let your inner hypochondriac run rampant.
If you do suffer from painful swelling during your period, here are some tips!
1) Eat a lower fat diet.
2) Avoid caffeine, products such as coffee, tea, and chocolate (the hardest! We know!).
3) Avoid salt for the one or two weeks prior to your period.
4) Try and get 20-30 minutes of exercise in every day, to minimize bloating.
As always, be your healthiest self during your period to minimize the negative symptoms of PMS. Celebrate your naturally larger breasts and compliment them by using natural products, like Maxim’s organic and natural tampon and pads!
