Earth Day stems from the history of a movement that worked to bring environmental concerns and causes to the forefront during the height of the “hippie and flower-child” culture in the 70s. Every year since then we’re delighted to see the world come together in bigger and stronger ways to take action in some form that will protect the planet and secure a sustainable future. Hopefully these actions stay with us throughout the year and not just on the one annually designated day of April 22nd.
This year, we wanted to paint a beautiful encouraging backdrop for your Earth Day efforts, instead of one of fear, by sharing exhilarating images of the Earth, accompanied by facts about our precious planet that will blow your mind and get you singing along with the tune “Heaven is Place on Earth.”
Once you’ve reached that place of natural euphoria, enter our #HeavenOnEarth social media contest by sending an email to info@maximhy.com (subject title: Heaven is a Place on Earth) with a link to your social media share of any of YOUR own favorite images of the earth. Your image of choice can be posted through any of your own preferred following social media channels – Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram. Make sure to include the following Hashtag along with your post so others can join in on the fun too – #HeavenOnEarth
All participants will receive a FREE Maxim Hygiene Cosmetic Accessory Travel Pack. To enter, you must email us at info@maximhy.com with a link to your post and don’t forget to include full name, mailing address, city, state and zip too so that we can process your FREE GIFT.
Hurry and cast your entry by April 22nd, 2014, 9pm EST. We can’t wait to be inspired by your shots along with ours here…..
The Earth is Precious – 71% percent of the Earth’s surface is comprised of oceans, which contain close to 20 million tons of gold.
Distance Makes the Heart(h) Grow Fonder – The sun and earth are 93 million miles apart from each other. Without the gravity provided by the sun in this relationship, the earth would flow off into space.
We Thought It Was Just a TV Show – “Third Rock from the Sun” is not only the name of a popular tv show, but it is also the position from which our home stands in line to the sun and the other plants. It’s also the only planet with free oxygen, oceans of liquid water and us (life)!
Thirsty? – As the most important liquid for life, we’re the only planet in our solar system to have water in its three states of matter: as a solid (ice), a liquid (sea, rain) and as a gas (clouds).
Making up for lost time – The Earth is gradually slowing down with a second being added to the clock every few years. If we take the time to protect our planet now, a million years from now our descendants may enjoy what we can only wish for now – a few extra hours in the day!
Breathe Easy – Oxygen is the most abundant element found in the rocks of the Earth’s crust, composed of about 47 percent of the weight of all rock.
Real Life Fairies! – The Earth’s surface gets sprinkled with about 100 tons of interplanetary material (mostly in the form of dust) on a daily basis.
If these fun images and facts haven’t yet convinced you that “Heaven is a place on Earth,” then make sure to enter our contest as described above and let us know what does!
Happy Earth Day!
