Aaaaah, we so love the glowing glory of the Summer season! School’s out, the kids are off to camp, vacations booked or maybe just taking a staycation; whatever the case may be for you this Summer, we encourage you to make some time for your soul and health before the winter months threaten the Vitamin D benefits provided by the natural healing euphoric elements of the Summer sun.
This month’s Maxim Hygiene’s Fierce Women of the Month, have created the ultimate setting for you to feed your soul with all the nostalgic essentials you may have experienced as a camper years ago or always dreamed of having as a kid, but could never afford. Michelle Goldblum and Ali Leipzig are co-founders of Soul Camp, adult sleepaway camp for the soul. Their soul sister type relationship budded years ago when they were little kids at sleepaway camp.
As adults, Michelle and Ali realized their poignant memories of camp had a life long impact on their experience of life in general, not only in the great friends they made but in the entrepreneurial successes they became and the spiritual soul seekers and inspirators they are. So they thought to themselves why can’t the fundamental principles of camp, “play, exploration, and untamed joy,” that fueled the ambitious expression of their own lives, continue to be offered to adults in combination with the spirit of the wellness revolution?
In spending just a few minutes with these two fierce women, you’ll come to see how their bubbly personalities and caring sensibilities came to create the fun and meaningful camp itinerary for Soul Camp. With them, they bring a staff of internationally renowned yogis, health coaches, “joyologists,” astrologists and empowerment speakers that will overwhelmingly energetically illuminate the already beautiful star lit Poconos sky camp site.
We had the chance to interview these lovely ladies to learn more about what makes them so “fierce” in their venture. Here’s what they had to say:
At Maxim Hygiene, we define a Fierce Woman as a “glorious female creature whose idea of beauty is hinged upon the idea that she can change the world with each choice, each moment and each breath of her life.” Who in your life is a Fierce Woman and why?
We are lucky to be surrounded by so many fierce women that it is incredibly hard to pick just one! To us, a fierce woman is one that knows that she has the power to bring about change, through love, not force. A woman that knows she was put on this planet to make it a better place than when she arrived. Our colleagues and friends are all so incredibly brave- moving past their personal fears, insecurities and stories to show other women that they can shine too.
How in the world did you come up with the amazing line up of “camp staff,” spiritual misfits, soul seekers and renowned yogis and health professionals that will be speaking and inspiring all the campers’ souls?
Great question! Ali and I came together and wrote out a list of all of the most incredible instructors, speakers, teachers and thought leaders we could think of. And every single person that we reached out to was a loud and excited YES! We think that all of these amazing staff members are just as excited as the campers to be at camp with one another!
Which part of Soul Camp are you most looking forward to?
We are so looking forward to walking around camp and watching as new friendships are born. Seeing people eat lunch together and share stories, watching as those women and men who came alone find “their people!” We are excited for the fear burning event at the bonfire, the all-camp talent show where campers and staff members will get to share their secret and amazing talents, watching as people exit the meditation yurt all zenned out, the disco with the amazing DJ Natasha Blank…there is so much we are looking forward to!
What does the concept of the “soul” mean to you?
To us, soul means the inner you that only knows joy. The you who is carefree, confident, and living in the moment. The guiding forces of your life.
If you could write a camp letter to your younger self, what would it say?
We would tell her to relax and enjoy. To find the people who she feels comfortable with. To try new things. To spend more time on the lake.
If there is one thing you want all your soul campers to leave with, what would it be?
A deeper connection with themselves and with their new friends. And practical tools to take the way they felt at Soul Camp into their daily lives.
