Celebrating Stay-at-Home Dads This Father’s Day

by All Maxim Hygiene

evAs an increasing number of women are graduating from college, entering the workforce, defying traditional gender roles, an increasing number of men are spending more time at home with their kids!

According to NPR, women are the primary breadwinners in more than 25% of American families.

The Census Bureau finds that about 3.5% of stay at home parents are fathers. The number sounds low, but it’s doubled in the past decade! The Council on Contemporary Families argues that the figure is vastly underreported, a point similar to one made by the New York Times. The number fails to include dads who do some work, yet are their children’s primary caregivers, a trend that cuts across class and income.

Stay-at-home dads are a new version of the Superhero Mom and so, in time for Father’s Day, we’re celebrating those dads who are also defying sociocultural stereotypes to spend more time with their kids and help maintain a family dynamic that provides nurturing care for children as well as minimizes the household burdens on the spouse.

So, here are some of the greatest Tumblrs, Buzzfeed articles, and photographs of stay at home dads.
