If there was a day young women around the world did something to take a stand; if there was a day where we wholeheartedly used every particle in our hearts, minds, souls, and bodies to achieve something, it was February 14th, 2013.
At the beginning of February, we honored Eve Ensler as our Fierce Woman, celebrating her past and current work as founder of V-Day, the organization responsible for the One Billion Rising movement. And it came at a monumental time – when the world woke up to see and discuss the atrocities happening around the world, such as the horrific Delhi gang-rape.
It was with joy and grace, we women of the world partook in and watched the movements all over the world to show our solidarity and embrace a new fate where oppression would be less.
This movement we rallied for marked the largest global action in history to end violence against women and girls. Women and men from over 207 countries came together to make a difference.
From the BrooklynBridge to living rooms in Iran, more than tens of thousands of events took place in the 48-hour time span that was February 14th across all international time zones
“One Billion Rising has broken taboos, lifted the veil of silence, and inspired a radical outpouring of support to reveal the worldwide system of patriarchy, which sustains the violence,” said Eve. “One Billion Rising has shown that violence against women is not a national, tribal, ethnic, or religious issue, but a global phenomenon.”
Here’s a pic from the Umbrella Brigade we participated in honor of V-Day that happened outside of our very own backyard in NYC’s WashingtonSquarePark. Maxim Hygiene Products salutes all the women and men that partook in this uplifting movement that truly fulfilled our “fierce woman” mantra of “changing the world with each choice, each moment, and each breath of her life.”
